Grzegorz Turnau – Concert Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of a Sensational Debut!
Grzegorz Turnau celebrates the 40th anniversary of his debut. The renowned composer, vocalist, and pianist will perform in the final concert of the jubilee XL Tour alongside distinguished guests. The evening promises to be filled with memories and magnificent music. The event will take place at the cultural mecca of Polish artists, the Grand Theatre – National Opera, on March 24, 2025. Tickets are available at www.biletserwis.pl.
40 years ago, at the age of 17, Grzegorz Turnau won the first prize at the prestigious Student Song Festival in Krakow, still being… a high school student! The press at the time hailed him as the sensation of the 20th jubilee competition and the successor to Marek Grechuta. Piotr Ferster, director of the Piwnica pod Baranami, was also captivated by him. Soon after, the young singer joined the legendary Piwnica – a breeding ground for Krakow artists. He was associated with it for 13 years. In 1991, Grzegorz Turnau’s debut album ‘Naprawdę nie dzieje się nic’ was released, featuring the title song and the piece that won him the student festival, ‘Znów wędrujemy’. Since then, he has released 16 solo albums and participated in numerous other recording projects.
He performs regularly and intensively and, currently, is usually accompanied by a small band, as well as chamber string ensembles on stage. He collaborates with many outstanding artists, including Anna Maria Jopek, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Aga Zaryan, Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, Andrzej Sikorowski, and Stanisław Soyka. Recently, he has found success in duets with younger generation vocalists, such as Sanah, Taco Hemingway, and Igor Herbut, being a special guest at their concerts.
He composes music for film and theater, having collaborated with the director Jarosław Kilian for many years. He is also the author of larger musical forms and has been the music director of the Lalka Theatre in Warsaw since 2016. Although he was born and lives in Krakow, he has been connected with the city of Inowrocław since childhood, where he was awarded honorary citizenship in 2013, as well as with the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, where the Turnau Vineyard – founded by the Turnau family: Zbigniew, Grzegorz, and Jacek – is located.
Grzegorz Turnau is the recipient of many awards, including 9 Fryderyk Awards, 2 Wiktor Awards, and the Grand Prix of the Opole Festival. He has also received the Gloria Artis Medal and the Gold Cross of Merit. In 2016, he was awarded the City of Krakow Award in the field of culture and art.
The year 2024 is particularly special for Grzegorz Turnau, as it marks 40 years since his artistic debut in Krakow. To commemorate this, he is touring as part of the jubilee XL Tour, which will culminate in the final performance at the Grand Theatre – National Opera in 2025.
Time is a strange invention – no one has seen it or touched it, yet everyone measures it. 40 years have passed – it sounds like a song. And since I wander through life with songs – it’s only natural that I measure my time with them. I’m glad I will be able to do this at the Grand Theatre, accompanied by friends, says Grzegorz Turnau.
At the final concert, Grzegorz Turnau will surely perform his well-known and beloved songs: ‘Znów wędrujemy’, ‘Bracka’, ‘Między ciszą a ciszą’, ‘Naprawdę nie dzieje się nic’, ‘Liryka’, ‘liryka’, as well as new songs from his latest album. The jubilee event in Warsaw will also feature performances by friendly artists specially invited for the occasion.
The concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Grzegorz Turnau's artistic career will take place on March 24, 2025, at the Grand Theatre – National Opera. Tickets are already available at www.biletserwis.pl. The event is organized by Prestige MJM agency.
